Yellow grass on the Costa Brava is almost always one of three things: too little water, too much sun on a thin lawn, or a fungal problem from watering at the wrong time of day. Most of the time it’s the watering.
Honest steps to try yourself
- Water early in the morning, before 9am. Watering at noon evaporates most of it and watering at night invites fungus.
- Check the soak depth: dig a finger 5cm into the soil. If it's dry under that, your sprinklers aren't running long enough.
- Cut the grass higher than you think (around 5cm). Short grass burns faster in Mediterranean heat.
- Avoid fertilizing in July or August. Feeding stressed grass makes it worse.
Be honest: if your grass has been yellow for more than two weeks, it’s not coming back without intervention. Reseeding in the wrong season just wastes seed.
